 h1. This page is DEPRECATED! Please visit powerdev.osuosl.org

  Welcome! The Open Source Lab, along with IBM, offer a PowerPC 64 bit environment for developers worldwide to develop and test Linux applications with in a true 64 bit environment.

 h2. Hardware

 The server, ppc64.osuosl.org, is a dual G5 2.5Ghz with 4 gig of RAM and plenty of disk space for development files. It is hosted at the Oregon State University [Open Source Lab|http://osuosl.org].

 h2. Operating System

 For a true 64 bit environment (kernel and userland), we have installed the server with [Gentoo Linux|http://www.gentoo.org]. Most languages available for PPC64 development have been installed, however, if there is something that you find missing please contact us by emailing support (at) osuosl.org.

 h2. Getting Access

 To request an account, send an email to support (at) osuosl.org with the following:

 * Name
 * Your public SSH key (please use a password-protected private key)
 * What your plans for development are

 Your email address will be signed up to a mailing list, ppc64 (at) osuosl.org. This will be mainly for announcements of downtime, upgrades, etc. No outside posting will be allowed. If you wish for a different email address to be signed up, please make note of that.

 Once you have been notified of your account creation, you can ssh in to ppc64.osuosl.org.

 h2. Acceptable Use and Agreement

 By using this account, you agree to the following:

 * The account will not be used for illegal actions. This includes the storage and/or distribution of illegal content (be it software, media, etc).
 * You will be responsible for the backup of your own files. While we will make every effort to maintain a high uptime and availability, we can not be held responsible for lost data.
 * Your access may be revoked at any time.
 * Any listening ports opened up should be discussed with the Open Source Lab support staff first. This will help us to know the intent of such ports when they show up on security scans.
 * Your account may be deleted or disabled after 6 months of inactivity. This is to help keep the system clean and make space available for active developers.
