 The OSL is proud to have been selected as a mentoring organization for the [Google Summer of Code 2007|http://code.google.com/soc/]. We are currently accepting applications from students interested in working with our mentors on OSL projects. If you are 18 years of age and are currently a student who has a desire to work on an open source project, we would be delighted to receive an application from you. To apply, go to: [http://groups.google.com/group/google-summer-of-code-announce/web/guide-to-the-gsoc-web-app-for-student-applicants].

 We have listed some proposed projects below. If you are interested in working on a project with us that is not listed below, please do not hesitate to send us a proposal. We love well-thought-out and interesting "blue sky" proposals. Send us your ideas - we may well accept it\!

 h2. Proposed Projects

 * [Maintain|http://maintainproject.osuosl.org]
 ** OpenID support? (wenzel)
 ** Internationalization? (wenzel)
 ** Unit test suite (wenzel)
 * RAIV
 ** RackViewer - A method of actually seeing the racks on the floor layout, being able to click into them and get more detailed stats on a server by server basis. Initial version of Rackviewer will start as dynamic webpages, their content beginning simply and then progressively getting more interactive. Depending upon how this idea matures, it may even go into the realm of Flash and Laszlo. For initial version, the project will be in PHP.
 * Google Apps API \-> Drupal
 ** [OpenAcademic|http://openacademic.org] is interested in doing a joint project with us to sponsor the creation of Drupal modules to add support for the new Google Apps for Education/Premium APIs. Especially the Single Sign-On and Provisioning, but possibly also the other Apps APIs as well. See [http://wiki.openacademic.org/index.php/Google_API_integration] for more information.
  * Drupal & Asterisk
 ** Drupal block to give access to Asterisk PBX manager tools:
 *** MeetMe conference moderator
 *** MeetMe conference creation/scheduling
 *** conference recording file management (download, rename, delete)
 * [OLPC|http://www.laptop.org/]
 ** Server admin scripts for the OLPC devboard cluster. We need various applications(web) to let users login to the boards, distributing the work load evenly. On the sysadmin side, we need various scripts to maintain the health of the cluster, and managing the VNC connections needed for interacting with Sugar.
 * Firefox
 ** Build a secure Firefox kiosk extension for K-12 [online student assessment|http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1173754522319820.xml&coll=7]
 ** Reference: Opera's [kiosk support|http://www.opera.com/support/mastering/kiosk/]
 ** Start from scratch or work off existing?
 *** [Symbio|http://www.opensourcexperts.com/PressRelease/showDetail.html?itemid=27] [Kiosk Browser|https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/954/] \- Just hides some toolbars, doesn't even restrict new windows which come up without kiosk limitations. This would need a lot of work.
 *** [R-kiosk|https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1659/] First version came a few months after the Symbio one. Is broken in 2.0. Last I checked, this one misses features such as preventing form buttons that present `open' dialog boxes, as well as saving. Doesn't restrict on URLs, either.
 *** [Open Kiosk|https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/509/] Only for Mozilla (Seamonkey?). I have not tested.

 * [OpenID|http://openid.net/]
 ** Add support to[Mailman|http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/] accounts.
 *** This would allow one account to be used for all Mailman installations
 *** It would also get rid of the monthly email reminders Mailman often produces
 ** Add support to [Bugzilla|http://www.bugzilla.org/]\!
 *** Sometimes a bug touches on multiple projects (A bug in Maintain might be due to a bug in PhpHtmlLib, etc), documenting those issues is a hassle if each step needs a new account created.
