header and footer directives
Using mod_autoindex we specify the following directives:
HeaderName: the header
ReadMeName: the footer

bandwidth bar
We use the 'bwbar' utility. In a daemon mode it will write the png bar every /n/ seconds. We include this file in the footer. It will also write out a textual form of the data. Since do not use server side includes, we run a little bash script on cron that generates the footer file every minute.
